If you know anything about fried fish, you know it's all about the batter! This recipe includes our own homemade wet and dry batters. they have to be seasoned just right. Well, this recipe makes making the batters quick and easy. The Cook Shop Seasoning Blends take all of the guess work out of cooking. They're perfectly blended to add mouthwatering flavor to whatever you're cooking.
So much talk about the batters, let's not forget about the fish. I'm using trout for this recipe, but many prefer catfish. There are also other varieties of fish that will work well with this recipe. The choice is yours.
FRIED TROUT
INGREDIENTS
Dry Batter
- 1/2 cup yellow corn meal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons The Cook Shop Cajun Seasoning Blend
- 1 tablespoon The Cook Shop Creole Seasoning Blend
Wet Batter
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons The Cook Shop Cajun Seasoning Blend
- 1 tablespoon The Cook Shop Creole Seasoning Blend
Fish & Oil
- 1 Pound boneless trout fillets (The same applies to your choice of fish.)
- canola oil- One inch deep in skillet
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
In a medium sized bowl, add the egg, The Cook Shop Creole and Cajun Seasoning Blends, hot sauce and water. Mix together with a fork until blended. Dip the fish fillets into the wet batter, coating them well. Set to the side and let marinate while preparing the batter and oil.
Now, combine the corn meal, flour and The Cook Shop Seasoning Blends in a large Ziploc bag, Shake well, until blended.
Heat the skillet on medium heat for a few minutes before pouring in the cooking oil.
Next, add the fillets into the Ziploc bag with the dry batter mixture and shake until the fillets are completely coated with the dry batter. Remove from bag and fry the fish 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and flakes easily with a fork.
Serve with your choice of sides. The traditional fish fry usually includes mac & cheese, French fries or potato salad and green peas or candied yams. Please search our blog posts for great side dish recipes to make this meal complete.
